Northwest Association of Book Publishers

Books are the physical manifestations of ideas. Between the initial idea and the publication of a book, however, many things must happen. A common misconception is the book must be written first. Not necessarily so.

With the assumption that the writer and publisher want to sell books once they've been published, one of the first jobs involves market research and marketing itself.

Getting the word out (that's marketing!) will increase the fruits of publication. The sooner the marketing begins, the more abundant the harvest.

As an ongoing learning community for small and independent publishers, our mission is based on these values:

  • Networking—exchange publishing resources and information
  • Education—provide learning opportunities to help develop members’ skills and foster professional growth
  • Mentoring—openly share expertise with other members
  • Community—encourage fellowship, participation, and mutual support
  • Outreach—promote recognition and professionalism of our members and actively grow and retain membership
